Seth Horan Live at The Agency January 30th, 2009

Press Releases for Seth Horan:
"He plays solo bass guitar like Victor Wooten, sings songs like John Mayer and Ani DiFranco, and performs with the intensity of Martin Sexton. He's a freak of nature, and he's phenomenal." - Ocean City Beachcomber (May 01, 2003)

"...a distinct and impressive solo set that showcased Horan's George Michael-esque pop vocal sensibilities and ..pedal-supported fretboard onslaughts (which stayed impressively clean despite the speaker-crowding layers)..." - Matt Robinson, Northeast Performer (Sep 01, 2008) <performermag.com>

"His rhythmic, funky two-handed tapping style is technically amazing and his song got the whole place grooving along and moving their heads." - Elizabeth Hawley, The LA Music Scene.com (Mar 12, 2001) <http://www.thelamusicscene.com/articles/00018/index.php3>

NWB trio live at The Agency Jan. 31st, 2009

...an improvisational approach that operates on the
foamy crest of an ever-unfurling present. (SF
Reporter)

Following well-received performances in 2008 at the
Outpost Performance Space in Albuquerque and at the
College of Santa Fe, Nakatani/Weaver/Balistreri Trio
returns in January 2009. This unique trio deftly
employs an environmental/spatial approach to creating
organically evolved sound structures that are both
powerful and subtle.

Percussionist Tatsuya Nakatani is originally from
Osaka, Japan. In 2006 he performed in 80 cities in 7
countries and collaborated with 163 artists
worldwide. In the past 10 years he has released
nearly fifty of his own recordings on CD.

Nakatani has created his own instrumentation,
effectively inventing many instruments and extended
techniques. He utilizes drumset, bowed gongs,
cymbals, singing bowls, metal objects, bells, and
various sticks and bows to create an intense, organic
music that defies category or genre. His music is
based in improvised/ experimental music, jazz, free
jazz, rock, and noise, yet retains the sense of space
and beauty found in traditional Japanese folk music.

Tuba player Mark Weaver is a native New Mexican who
has contributed to countless creative music projects
in the Southwest region and on the West Coast, and
who has recorded for Balance Point Acoustics, Black
Phone Records, Leaf Records, Carrot Top, Newsonic,
Nine Winds, pfMENTUM, Plutonium, Snowdonia, and Zerx
record labels. Recently he has been performing
around NM with his quartet UFO Ensemble with
trumpeter Bill Clark, Katie Harlow on cello, and
Jason Aspeslet on drums, which explores Mark's unique
approach to ensemble composition.

Basement Films Presents "1,2,3, Whiteout"

directed by James Schneider

October 19th

James June Schneider will be on the road presenting his feature film and a few
short instructional films on artificial light, light bulbs, and "manifestations of the
cult of light."

From the city of light comes a radical call for darkness

THE END OF THE LIGHT AGE
(originally shot in 16mm, 72 minutes, 2007)
www.sphairosproductions.com
directed by James June Schneider
www.jamesjune.info

This 'tone poem for darkness' mixes strange settings from various cities and
languages, found footage, a raw sci-fi sensibility and incredible soundscapes to
create a "blissfully imaginative retro-futuristic creation". Set in an old-fashioned
kind of future, Veronique and an inventor (the legendary Lou Castel) are working
to bring about a 'positive' darkness to offset the glaringly bright man-made
light. As much about sound as about darkness, it asks: Can we shine when we
are faced with blinding light?

Paris A Go-Go Burlesque Show

Saturday, September 5th

There are some females you are proud to take home to Mom.And,there are some that you arent. Those are the ones you take to meet Dad. Thank goodness for the latter. These are the women that are the beautiful muses that truly rule the world. These are the women that inspire men to do the stupidest and the greatest things in thier whole life.Without these types of delicious she-creatures, not even the professional athletes that men often occupy themselves watching while their women pout would bother to pump iron and play thier games to win.

Paris A GoGo is a Dance and Magic Revue, most entirely comprised of unapologeticly beautiful and free-spirited women. There are also a few crafty and devilishly handsome male magicians in the group. Thus, the chemistry is playful, artistic and aestheticly enticing to onlookers.

Paris A GoGo is an elegant and passionate Revue offering several routines individually performed as well as in twosomes, threesomes and at times in groups of blushing mayhem. What does that mean? Ah, Dear Reader, I invite you to surrender yourself to experience their performance for yourself.

Indulge your senses and relax your spirit to a night of burlesque, magic and laughter.

May 25th / 26th - The Governors of War Simulvision

The Agency is proud to present the first ever SIMULVISION showing in the Southwest

That's right, "The Governors of War" is the first Simulvision to be shown in Albuquerque if not, the Southwest. Seating is limited for this show and presale tickets are available here.

What is a SIMULVISION?

Resident house band, Agency E, will be performing the two hour rock opera style show titled "The Governors of War" both Friday May 23rd and Saturday May 24th. Incorporating video projections, computer generated audio, and live musical instruments, "The Governors of War" pushes the boundaries of underground entertainment and culture.

Those attending the highly creative yet unpredictable show should expect the intensity of a rock and roll show along with the experience of watching a movie, well, actually watching two movies played simultaneously.

"A Simulvision gets the viewers thinking about the coincidences in the videos, asking themselves if it was planned or not", says Jason Wolf of The Agency. "The planned cues and improvisational music passages played by the band synchronize with the projections in exciting ways, giving the show an edgy feel of unpredictability. We are all looking forward to the debut show next weekend at The Agency and invite everyone to join us and check it out."

History of the Simulvision
The first Simulvision was performed at in San Francisco by an psychedelic/acid rock band, Spork, in late 1998. The Simulvision was an idea pollinated by the like minds of Spork and Jacque of The Werepad, where the Simulvisions were hosted. The popularity of the Simulvisions grew over time, eventually selling out seats and having high profile guests attend such as Chet Helms, father of San Francisco's "1967 Summer of Love" and founder / manager of Big Brother and the Holding Company.

Simulvision Shows were the place to go to get "underground" style entertainment with a touch of class and sophistication. There were nine Simulvision shows in total before the last performance in 1999.

Future of the Simulvision
Now, almost 10 years later, Agency E (resident house band for The Agency) are bringing the psychedelic happenings of the Simulvision to Albuquerque. This is the first of many SIMULVISION shows The Agency plans on hosting throughout the summer and fall. Calling on friends and guest musicians, Agency E plans on inviting guest musicians to sit in on new shows, adding yet another dynamic of mystery and excitement to each event.

AABA Breakfast - May 7th

The AABA will be hosting a recruitment breakfast for interested businesses. Interested artists and merchants should contact the AABA for more information. About the AABA: While Artscrawl and First Friday are AABA's most visible projects, behind the scenes AABA is working hard to educate the public about art and promote Albuquerque as an art destination. Classes are periodically offered at UNM Continuing Education for those of you who are interested in learning more about art but don't want to go gallery hopping alone. The courses provide an overview of Albuquerque's art venues, festivals, public events and centers for learning with guest speakers and a guided field trip/tour utilizing the monthly Artscrawl event. AABA is also involved in special projects such as the exhibition of work by young artists in the "Art in the School" program; juried shows of work by APS high school students in galleries along Central Avenue, and other programs such as the Art Education Minute, and the “Art in Albuquerque” brochure produced in 2005
